

John was born in Penn Yan, NY on October 1st, 1927, the son of the late, John and Marion Prosser Hoban. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He worked as a regional salesman for Harris Flote-Bote for 27 years, owned and operated Rocking H. Enterprises, where he did trucking, construction, and boat repairs. He was proud to be a Squire for the Jack Daniels Distillery, a co-founder of the Snow Rovers snow mobile club. John was past member and past chief of the Pulteney Volunteer Fire Dept. and used to race stock cars. John and a close friend were the first recovery divers for the Steuben County Sheriff Department. John loved Keuka Lake and enjoyed all kinds of water sports.
John is survivied by his loving wife of 57 years, Nellie Schuyler Hoban; children, Sandra Morton, Robert (Barb) Yentzer, Rorry (Richard) Levee, Ronald (Marge) Yentzer, Dawn (Doug) Sterner, Ronald (Dawn) Didas, Richard (Lorene) Yentzer, Darlene (Phillman) Chissom, and Patrick (Jennifer) Hoban; daughter in law, Linda Didas; many loved grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sons, Michael Batchelor and Joe Didas; daughter, Colleen Hoban; and his sister, Rosemary Wheeler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John’s memory to the Pulteney Volunteer Fire Dept., 8875 Brown Rd., Pulteney, NY 14874.
A memorial service celebrating John’s Life will be held on Monday, November 3rd, 2014 at 11am at the Branchport United Methodist Church, 3376 Guyanoga Rd., Branchport, NY 14418.
