Betty Jean Reed

Reed, Betty Jean Perrin, 80, of Prattville, AL, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Annie Perrin; three sisters, Ruth King, Patricia Glass, and Barbara Holsomback; four brothers, Arthur Reeves, David Perrin, Sonny Perrin, and Jimmy Perrin. She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis R. Reed; three children, Dolores (Scarlett) Glass Burgess (Fred), Robert C. Glass (Kim), Dennis R. Reed II, (Rachel) and two stepchildren Steven Reed (Allison), and Stephanie Reed Sims (Chad); two sisters, Virginia Downs, and Dessie Fredericks. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends.

On April 21, 1943, Betty was born a coal miner’s daughter in Sicard Holler, Alabama where she learned the value of hard work and the importance of family. Betty was one of ten children, and though her early life was difficult, she had fond memories of growing up with her siblings in a tar paper shack with dirt floors. After the dissolution of her first marriage, Betty raised her two oldest children “Lois” and “R.C.” with the help of her sister Ruth. In 1980, Betty went to work at Union Camp where she met the love of her live, Dennis Reed Sr. She and Dennis married, and Betty subsequently gave birth to Dennis R. Reed II.

Betty’s life was defined by her love of family, generous nature, work ethic, and her refusal to ever give up. Betty was a fighter, and her family was her world. She was one of those people who truly loved her job and until retirement, she looked forward every day to driving her “Dinosaur” at the paper mill. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, shopping for a bargain, and occasionally sneaking off to a casino. Betty transitioned from this life to the next surrounded by her family whom she loved.
