

Bill Gilmore, of The Woodlands, Texas, formally of Prattville, Alabama, passed away September 23, 2021. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Clary Gilmore; parents, Roll and Addie Gilmore; brothers, Howard Gilmore (Mildred), Quinton Gilmore (Rosie), R. C. Gilmore (Gladys), Frank Gilmore (Marie) and Earnest Gilmore (Ilse); sisters, Mildred Taylor (J.B.) and Derlene Smith (Raymond). He is survived by his wife, Elva Mae Gilmore and daughter, Anne Gilmore; son, Mark Gamma and by many extended family members.
Bill worked for the State of Alabama Department of Corrections for 30 years. He was a classification officer at the Old Kilby prison, Warden of Julia Tutweiler Women’s Prison, Frank Lee Youth Center, the New Kilby Prison and Red Eagle Honor Farm. He was also the Deputy of Corrections under Governor George Wallace. Bill was also involved in many service organizations. He served on the Board of Directors of the Autauga Campus of Alabama Department of Youth Services, was in the Civitans, Toastmasters, Master Gardeners, Docent of Prattaugan Museum and President of the Bridgecreek Fishing Club. Bill was a long member of Prattville Church of Christ. He also had a muscadine vineyard and with a partner he raised muscadines and made wine and taught others to make wine. He loved to visit wineries in California and other states and even Europe. He was a world traveler, having visited six continents.
A visitation for BILL will be held Monday, October 4, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 PM at Ridout's-Brown-Service Prattville Chapel, 347 E Main St, Prattville, Alabama 36067. A funeral service will occur Monday, October 4, 2021 at 10:30 PM, 347 E Main St, Prattville, Alabama 36067. A visitation will occur from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, 347 East Main Street, Prattville, AL 36067.
