Bonnie P Shanholtzer, 77, of Prattville, Alabama, passed away on August 8, 2026. Born December 16, 1948, Bonnie’s life was marked by steady devotion to others, a strong work ethic, and a quiet compassion that showed itself in both her professional service and the care she extended to those around her.
Bonnie retired from The Alabama State Senate after 39 1/2 years, serving with diligence and reliability in the work of public life. In every setting, she carried herself with a considerate spirit—someone who could be counted on to do what needed to be done, and to do it with genuine kindness.
Her generosity of heart was especially evident in the time she gave to young people. Bonnie taught high schoolers and coached 4Her's in the award winning Star Spangled Stampede equestrian drill team for many years; encouraging participation, pride, and commitment through each event and season. She also loved horses, finding in them a lasting source of enjoyment and meaning.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Lowell Poole Sr, her mother, Reba Poole, and her brother, Lowell Poole Jr.
She is survived by her partner, Bernie Dickinson; her son, Phil Shanholtzer; and her grandchildren, Matthew Shanholtzer, Mallory Shanholtzer, Blake Dickinson, Hunter Dickinson, Layton Murphy, and Braxton Murphy.
