David is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elda Johnston; sons, Michael Johnston, Mitch Johnston (Valerie Sparks); daughter, Carol Martin (Joseph); 10 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and brothers, Pierce Johnston, Jack Johnston and Ed Johnston.
David was a devoted husband and loving father. He retired from the navy and went on to have a successful painting business. David was also a talented artist, a great cook and was very creative.
A Graveside Service will be held at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115, on November 5, 2026, at 11:45 am.
