April 30, 1990 - July 01, 2020
Derek Michael Cole passed away suddenly on July 01, 2020, at the age of 30, in a traffic accident. He returned home to our Heavenly Father to be greeted by his dad, Ronald Cole, who passed away nearly 20 years prior (October 27, 2000).
Born April 30, 1990, to Ronald Wayne Cole and Vicki Gail (Hall) Cole in Jackson, Tennessee, Derek attended Prattville High School and, later, Troy University. He worked around the Montgomery River Region mostly in the construction industry as a painter and laborer. Over the years, he met many people, and his contagious laughter, mischievous spirit, and kind heart made him many friends.
Derek is survived by his mother, Vicki Hall Morrison, and step-father, Rodger Glenn Morrison. He also leaves behind brothers Brandon Cole and Jeremy Cole; sister Tina Sims, step-brothers Levi Morrison and David Morrison; sisters-in-law; seven nieces and nephews; and countless friends and family.
Loyal to his friends, Derek was a carefree spirit who enjoyed the freedom of being alone in the woods camping, fishing, and hiking. His other great joys included motorcycles, classic and hard rock music, science fiction and fantasy literature, spending time drawing freehand, and was an avid and skilled video gamer. He was also fascinated with numbers and how they appeared in all of creation, in which he saw the evidence of God.
We will always be grateful for our time with Derek, his carefree spirit, sense of humor, and tender heart. He believed in God and knew that his only hope in eternity was for God to save him, even though, like the rest of us, there is nothing worthy of saving. We will miss him until we can be with him again, but are grateful that he is now with his God, whole, and at peace. His family and friends will continue to love and remember him forever.
Visitation for friends and family in the area will be held at The Church at Chantilly (9299 Vaughn Road, Pike Road, AL 36064) on Monday, July 6, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 P.M. There will be no graveside service.
*Due to the COVID-19 crisis, please remember social distancing protocols.
Visitation for friends and family near his family home in the Milan/Jackson, Tennessee, area will be held later this month. Details will be announced by the family via telephone and social media as soon as possible.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Derek to the Lighthouse Counseling Center, 111 Coliseum Blvd, Montgomery, Alabama, 36109 (334-286-5980).
