Mrs. Elsie Tatum Owens, 92, of Prattville, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 2nd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 3rd at the First United Methodist Church with Pastors Drew Willis and Tony McCullough officiating. Burial will follow at the Pine Level United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Owens was born on January 24, 1926 to the late Paul and Ethel Tatum. For many years she was an active part of the business and civic affairs of Prattville. She was the founder of the Kiddie College and a pioneer of early childhood development. She was a true matriarch in ministry to young children. She touched the lives of thousands. Mrs. Owens was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and belonged to many other church, fraternal, business and social organizations.
She will always be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help anyone in need.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Albert Owens; brothers, Clarence Tatum, Braxton Tatum, Ray Tatum, Curtis Tatum and a son in law, David Willis. She is survived by two daughters and a son in law, Sandra and Darrell Faint, Angie Willis; three grandchildren, Jonathan Faint, Joshua Faint, Tatum Willis; a sister in law, Betty Tatum and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Prattville or to the Pine Level United Methodist Church or the Pine Level United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
