AUTAUGAVILLE – Elsie Golson Shanks, 96, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. Mrs. Shanks was a lifetime resident of Autaugaville, AL and taught school for many years in the Autauga County School System. She was preceded in death by her husband Al Shanks, Sr. and her daughter Judy Skidmore. She is survived by a daughter, Augusta (Jim) Ross, and two sons, Bill (Barbara) Shanks and Al (Sheila) Shanks, Jr; grandchildren Steve Fields, Erin (Michael) Vineyard, Al “Trey” (Sabrina) Shanks, III, and Adam Shanks; five great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Hyde and a brother, Henry Golson and numerous other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Autaugaville United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autaugaville United Methodist Church, 207 North Autauga St., Autaugaville, AL 36003, or your favorite charity.
