

Pierce, Janet Elizabeth, age 85 and a resident of Prattville, Al passed away November 6, 2012. She was born on August 19, 1927 in Walnut Grove, Al to the late Bert and Arles (Isenhower) Cornelius. After graduating high school she attended Howard College (now Samford) in Birmingham. She married the late Lt. Col. C W (Jim) Pierce in 1952. After living in Stuttgart Germany and then Augusta, GA for the first years of marriage, they moved to Prattville. It was there that they opened Jim's Restaurant, a historical establishment known and loved by many across Alabama and still in operation 54 years later. Janet attended First Baptist Church in Prattville and was a member of the Helping Hands Sunday School class. She cherished her friendship with these women who kept her spirits high with all the cards and food lavished upon her in the past year. She was also a sustaining member of the Prattville Service League and The Prattville Askesis Study Club. Janet was an avid bridge player and continued to play as often as possible with all her friends she loved so much. She loved gardening and was a true animal lover, especially her most trusted friend, Troubly. Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lt. Col. C. W. (Jim) Pierce; son Steve Pierce, and daughter Jan Pierce. Survivors include three daughters and sons in law, Kaki and Richard Austin of Montgomery, Phyllis and Andy Tampling of Prattville and Carole and Bill Rogers of Auburn; one son and daughter in law, Dale and Kathy Pierce of Davenport Iowa; Grandchildren, Courtney Carson, Barrett Austin, Will Tampling, Leigh Yearky, Julie Nolen, Natalie Dudchock, Melissa Miles, Nancy Brooks, Cary Pierce, Mark Pierce, and Matthew Pierce; numerous great grandchildren; One brother Bert Cornelius; two sisters, Joella Connell and Kathy Goolsby and numerous other relatives. Mrs. Pierce was a 25 year survivor of a heart transplant which allowed her family many more precious years to enjoy her love. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to The American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or The Kidney Foundation.
Visitation will be held Thursday at 1:30 pm from First Baptist Church of Prattville followed by funeral services at 2:30, with Doctor Travis Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens.
