
OAKLEY, John J. “Joey” 61, of Millbrook, Alabama passed away Monday February 16, 2015. Funeral services were held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel with Pastor Winston Brooks officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Brookside Memorial Gardens in Millbrook.
“Joey’ was born April 15, 1953 in Warner-Robins, Georgia to John H. Oakley and the late Verna Oakley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT. He attended Daytona Beach Community College where he achieved an associate’s degree in history. He had many interest and hobbies which included westerns, music of all kinds, singing, playing musical instruments, art and painting. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was known to be a great conversationalist.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, a son and daughter in law, John and Halie Oakley; a daughter Corie Oakley, all of Montgomery; a stepson Jason Whorley and his wife, Jennie of Millbrook, Alabama; a stepdaughter, Tina Davis and her husband Kevin; father, John H. Oakley of California; a brother and sister in law, Craig and Debbie Oakley of Beaufort, S.C.; a sister and brother in law, Cathy and Dennis Trippe of Conyers, Ga.; grandchildren, Mason, Elizabeth, Noah, Tristain and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
