

After a courageous battle with bladder cancer, Kathleen Hutchison passed away at home in Prattville, AL on Thanksgiving morning, November 23, 2017. She was born on April 29, 1929 in Lyons, KS to Walter and Jesse Higgins. She grew up in Lyons, KS. After graduating from high school, she attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC were she received a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Piano.
On June 1, 1958, she married William Hutchison. They were happily married for over 59 years. She was a devoted wife and mother to three daughters (and an excellent cook). It is estimated she made over 7,000 desserts for her family through the years. In addition to being a wife and mother, she taught music at Greystone Christian School in Mobile, AL for three years before staying home to raise her family. Kathleen always had a passion for missions and in their retirement years, she and her husband (along with their cat and dog) traveled around the US volunteering at various Christian organizations.
Always a lover of music, Kathleen taught piano lessons in her home for over twenty years. Additionally, she was a beloved teacher to the ladies who attended her home Bible study group. She was a well respected member of her Sunday School class at Trinity Presbyterian Church where she often played the piano for the class. She was also a mentor and friend to many ladies through the years.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her father, Walter Higgins and mother, Jesse Higgins Rife. Kathleen is survived by her husband, William Hutchison of Prattville, AL; her daughters, Linda Burk (Robb Burk) of Richland, WA, Carolyn Hutchison of Dallas, TX, and Norma McCarthy (Dan McCarthy) of Dallas, TX; her two grandchildren, Justin Bandy of Atlanta, GA and Hannah McCarthy of Austin, TX.: and her brothers, Robert Higgins of Little River, KS and Raymond Higgins (Norma Higgins) of Lyons, KS.
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 27, 2017, 11:00 AM, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, AL. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Greenville, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Voice of the Martyrs at PO Box 443, Bartlesville, OK, 84005 or Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1729 S Hull ST. Montgomery, AL 36014.
