Louise Collins Johnson, a proper and graceful woman, 106 years of age, left her family to be with the Lord on the morning of March 31, 2018. Her life was full of laughter, service, and family. Teaching Sunday school was a lifelong commitment for her, beginning at the age of 18 and as health permitted through the age of 104. Louise was a long time member of Central Park Baptist Church in Birmingham until she retired to Gulf Shores in 1981. She described her ministry being “A fulfillment that nothing else could offer”. Since retirement did not agree with her, she became secretary of First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores. She moved to Autaugaville in 2007 and became an active member of First Baptist Church in Prattville and often attended Missionary Circle meetings at Ivy Creek Methodist Church.
Being born in 1912, she often reflected on the changes that occurred during her lifetime. One of her first jobs was working for Birmingham Electric Company giving away free light bulbs in hopes that it would entice people to use more electricity in the 1930s. Louise traveled throughout North America and the Far East, teaching and filling in for missionaries on furlough. She said “Life’s value is not measured in material things but doing the work of the Lord”.
Visitation was at 10:00 AM Tuesday April 3rd at the First Baptist Church of Prattville followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM in the church sanctuary with Dr. Travis Coleman and Pastor Dave Burns officiating. Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday April 4th at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham with Dr. Levan Parker officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to the First Baptist Church of Prattville or to the Ivy Creek Methodist Church.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Johnson, in 1968. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Tyus; grandchildren, Debbie and Scott LeCroy, Sonyan and Ron Busby, David and DeLynn Chapman; great grandchildren, Ashleigh Allgood and Tal Partridge, Kate LeCroy and Riley Spahn, Caleb Busby, Jonathan LeCroy, James LeCroy and Denae Chapman.
