Born on November 8, 1954, Mike graduated from Verbena High School, where he proudly served as the quarterback of the football team. After graduation, he built a career as a truck driver, where he adopted the name “Fat Daddy” and "nurtured profession" that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication.
In 1980, Mike married the love of his life, Peggy. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love, raising two sons who were the pride of his life.
Mike never met a stranger. He had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever he went and was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His generous heart and easygoing spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike found great joy in hunting, fishing, and cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. In years past, he faithfully served through numerous mission trips with his local church, sharing both his time and his servant’s heart with others.
In his later years, Mike treasured every opportunity to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his best friend, Ricky Daniels. One of Mike’s greatest pleasures was gathering family and friends around good food. Whether he was smoking meats or preparing a meal, he loved cooking for others and bringing people together.
Mike’s life was defined not by the things he owned, but by the lives he touched. His kindness, generosity, infectious smile, and genuine love for people will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Mike is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; Calvin and Myrtle McGalliard (grandparents); John C. McGalliard (father); Frances McGalliard (stepmother); Ima Anderson Carter (mother); Peggy Hooks (sister); Judy McGalliard (sister in law); Jimmy Bowden Sr.(father in law) and Jimmy Bowden Jr. (brother in law).
Surviving are his two sons; Griffin (Bonnie) and Graham and grandchildren; Solomon and Margaret Anne; his mother in law, Brenda Bowden and a host of family members and dear friends who will continue to honor his memory by living with the same compassion and generosity he showed every day.
