Michael Randolph Walters, of Millbrook, AL, passed away at his home on April 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born on September 20,1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Randolph Walters, Ella Frances Wood Walters; and his brother, James Conrad Walters.
He is survived by his (ex)wife, Gloria Blackmon Walters; their children, Jean-Marie Walters and James Aaron Conrad Walters; granddaughter, Ella Michaelyn-Marie Pollock; sister, Susan Walters Toole (Jerry); as well as his niece and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mike proudly served in the National Guard. Mike truly enjoyed his work with jet and helicopter engines. After graduating from the Alabama Aviation College, he worked for Auburn University, Blount Inc., and the State of Alabama Department of Public Safety Aviation Unit. He loved his coworkers and the pilots. He obtained advanced certification in his area of expertise. He also took pride in working on small engines as a hobby.
Mike loved fishing, cooking, NASCAR, and music. He was a member of the Greenville High School band and, after high school, he was part of a local Greenville rock band, the Original Dedications. Through this experience, Mike became interested in music recording and enjoyed learning about the Muscle Shoals music scene. Mike shared his fishing skills with family and friends and always had stories about "the big one that got away." When the family bought a large boat, it was Mike who suggested the name: "Miss Ella", after his mother. Mike would share his fishing secrets, but was unwilling to share his grilling expertise with anyone except his son, Aaron. Anyone who tasted his barbeque ribs wanted the recipe.
Mike was a man of quiet strength and kindness. More than anything, Mike loved, and was very proud, of his family. His family has provided intensive care of him over the last several years.
Ridout's Brown Service Prattville Chapel Funeral Home is assisting the family.
