
Parker Gray Mount, Sr., age 90, a resident of Mathews, Alabama passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022. He was born May 13, 1932, in Andalusia, Alabama and was preceded in death by his parents Arlie and Mary Lillian Gray Mount; and his wife Annie Ruth Estes Mount. He is survived by his children, Parker Gray Mount, Jr. (Laura) of Seacrest, FL, William Chappell Mount (Rhonda) of Mathews, AL, Melissa Eileen Mount of Ramer, AL, and Howard Robert Mount (Shannon) of Bremen, GA; grandchildren, Stephanie Mount McCullough (Matt), Mark Primsar Hertenstein (Susannah), Jessica Lillian Mount Gober (Jeremy), Mary Frances Mount Burke (Jeremy), Aubrey Gray Mount, Casey Elizabeth Hill, and Liam Conner Hill. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
Mr. Mount grew up in Ramer, Alabama and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in 1954 with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree. He served as President of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and began his military service in the ROTC program while attending Auburn. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. After completing his military service, he returned home to south Montgomery county to begin a lifetime farm career. Mr. Mount was a lifelong member of the Ramer United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and was Chairman of the Board. He was a tireless supporter of South Montgomery County Academy and was active on both the school and booster club boards. He took on a very active role in both the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and Alabama Farm Bureau organizations, served as chairman of the Montgomery County Forestry Committee and was a member of the Alabama Forestry Committee. Later in life Mr. Mount served on the board of Alabama Farmers Federation as a Director. He was active in both the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association and the Montgomery County Cattleman’s Association where he served as President. He served many years on the Board of Trustees of Dixie Electric Cooperative and was Chairman for numerous terms.
Visitation is Thursday, June 2, 2022 at the Mount Family Home, 5654 State Highway 94, Ramer, Alabama from 5:00-7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Ramer Cemetery at 11:00 AM. Serving as active pallbearers are Mr. Mount’s sons along with Claude Collier, Jr., Gilbert Sellers, III, and Don Hicks, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Gilbert Sellers, Jr., John Faircloth, Tom Russell, W. F. (Sonny) Mills, Donald Hicks, Art Mcknatt and Dan Adkison.
