I was his big sister. I miss him so much. God bless Angie for loving him the way she does.

He was always into my stuff and getting in trouble, but he was my little brother and that’s OK with me.

My first ever trip to Hawaii and my wonderful uncle and aunt was there to show me around. They put up with all my requests of where I wanted to go and even let me run around on my own for a night or two o the beach. Love you uncle Paul. Going to miss visiting with you. 2012 Hawaii

Angie, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.  I have always held you and Paul in high regard.  You both provided so much support when I was in Hawaii.  You took me under your care and taught me all I needed to know about the business.  You made me feel a part of your Ohana and for that I am grateful.

My condolences to Angie and her family. I met Paul around 2003. Over the years working at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery and Borthwick Mortuary, I grew quite fond of both Paul and Angie.  Angie was the first to hire me and she was a terrific boss but when a position opened up at Borthwick Mortuary she gave me an option to stay with her or transfer to Borthwick. I TOOK THE JOB AT BORTHWICK! And that is when a great friendship evolved.  Paul was the finest, superb boss anyone could ever have had.  He was supportive with our work and personal life. He cared about his employees and showed appreciation. He was the type of boss that literally sat on your desk and covered your work when needed. I remembered one day I was so overwhelmed in reviewing preneed contracts; then suddenly, he walked over to my desk and started helping me out. A Location Manager helping me out without a word, impressive and down to earth.  I will forever cherish all the belly and teared eyes laughs that we had at luncheons and Pau Hana (after work) time. Rest in Peace and Love, Paul. A HUI HOU!

I met Paul in August of 2009. We worked together at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as instructors. Paul had been there a few years previous. He took me under his wing, to make sure that I was made to feel like “ohana” and given everything I needed to do my job, Paul helped everybody around him, both the training staff and students. He was a vast store of technical knowledge which he shared freely with all. Many of the trainees that he taught are now holding positions of great responsibility at Pearl Harbor and his influence will be felt there for years.
Paul was a patient and caring leader to his students. He would often share a “sea story” which most often had some lesson hidden within. I know he had a long and incident filled naval career and did much in service to his country even before coming back to work at Pearl Harbor. 
It was a sad day for me when Paul retired, though I knew he certainly deserved it. We tried to keep in touch, but distance, time zones, and other commitments made contacts rare. Based on the few words we did exchange, I felt that he enjoyed life in retirement. I am glad he had some time to relax. He earned it. 
I liked Paul and will continue to miss him. He was a good man, a good sailor, a good American and a good friend.


Paul was my big brother.  With over six years of age separating us I was his annoying little sister who got in his way. By time I was old enough to remember Paul was busy with his own life working, hanging out with friends, dating and getting into mischief. I thought he was so smart (he had a photographic memory) and handsome and looked up to him although I don’t think he knew that then. Then one day he was gone… enlisted in the Navy , married and gone. Visits after that were few and far between so we missed out on so much over the years.  In recent years the gap of time and distance finally narrowed both geographically and emotionally. I am thankful for that. But time ran out and there was so much more life we should have experienced together. I will miss you sweet brother. I will always love you.

To Angie and family - my sincere condolences.  Rest in Love, Paul.  It was a honor and a privilege to have worked for you, Paul, at HMPC and Borthwick Mortuary.  I will always remember the late nights when you used help me pay bills and help with the data entry for sales contracts before month end.  I truly appreciated you helping me complete my duties even though it wasn't really your "job".  You and Angie were always very kind to me.  I remember you replaced my breaks on my beat up old Toyota for free.  You treated me like family and I always felt i was more than just an employee.  I really enjoyed the Komo Mai and Over the Wall bar outings where we would just kick back and relax and also the Kaneohe house parties.....LOL.  Then when I resigned from my position at BTWK, i remember you yelling at the top of your lungs for me to get in your office.  But its ok - I knew you were ok with me wanting to spread my wings, i saw it it your eyes.  Thank you so much for all these memories.  I will cherish them forever.  See you on the other side, boss. We lived in a small house on Willow Dr. Greenville, Ms. I was about 7 years old and an only child. I asked mom and dad why there wasn’t more kids in our family. They told me I should pray and ask God to send a little brother or sister. So I did. Almost 2 yrs. later my father’s brother called us from Chicago to ask mom and dad if they wanted to adopt their unborn child. It happened pretty fast after that. He arrived at our home 3days old weighing less then 5 lbs. He squeaked when he crying. I had never been as happy in my life. Then he started growing, doing things little boy do. He rambled in my room when I was at school. destroyed my doll collection, colored in my book and scratch up my 45s. He was my brother and I took care of him I knew there were things I’d have to sacrifice. In his school years there were times he needed me with problems he got himself into. Even in the middle of the night after curfew if he called he knew I would be there to soften the consequences. Then he joined the Navy. He was on his own after that. Now it’s come full term, he had a devoted wife and family, friends that count him as family and the respect of all those he mentored and witnessed to in his line of work. He is a Christian He was with peace in God’s mercy and grace and we shall meet again. Praise God, his love is unconditional. 

Paul was teaching Nikki, his niece, how to split the coconut without losing a finger.

It is times like this that words seem to fall so short of expressing the sorrow we feel. Paul was a great friend during our High School years. He was a very encouraging, funny and faithful person. I extend my deepest sympathies. You are in my prayers, our family prayers, and my church's prayers.

I was very saddened to learn about Paul.  Paul was one of the most intelligent, hardworking people I’ve had the honor to know and work with.  I liked him very much and wish I could have had more time with him.  I am truly sorry for your loss.

Paul was my brother’s best friend in Greenville. His mother and my mother were also best friends. I am so sorry to hear of his loss. I lost my brother two years ago.  It is so heartbreaking. 🙏🏼💕
