Quinter Stewart Baker was born March 1920 in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, to Charles and Sybil (Stewart) Baker. He is survived by his wife Gail, and daughter Renee Baker Lee (Bruce), granddaughters Kerry and Nicole, all of Boyds, Maryland, and one brother, Charles Baker, living in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was step-father and grandfather to Michelle Watley (Logan) and Sandy Marshal (Rebecca), Kaitlyn Isabell Watley, Ann Marie Marshal and Ashlan Alexander Marshal. Predeceasing him were his parents and brothers James (Jim) and Osborne (Rockville, Maryland).
Sam will always be remembered as a wonderful and devoted husband and father. He was committed to his family and deeply loved each member. Included in a long list of those he loved dearly were the nieces and nephews of his brothers that he looked forward to seeing each year at the occasion of the Stewart Family Reunion held in Point Marion, Pennsylvania.
He was an accomplished chef, one who carefully prepared each meal, personally shopping for and choosing his own meats and produce. He delighted in giving gifts of homemade apricot pies as well as canned pepper jellies and he truly cherished being in the company of loving friends who enjoyed sharing his delectable morsels.
He always said that his greatest accomplishments in this life were the Colonial landmarks that he'd helped preserved. As a young boy he grew up living amongst historical sites associated with George Washington, John Q. Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. He carefully lobbied the U. S. Congress in his efforts to preserve America's history, including most notably Friendship Hill, the home of Belgium immigrant, Albert Gallatin, who served as Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Adams and
Jefferson.
Following World War II he moved to Washington, D.C. and worked as a Civil Engineer for the Department of Transportation in Materials and Testing, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement Quinter and his wife, Gail, began successful careers as event planners in the Washington, D. C. and Colonial Williamsburg areas.
