

The family later moved to Alturas, FL where he graduated from Summerlin Institute in Bartow, FL in 1966. Richard was a third generation Eagle Scout, an Army Veteran of Vietnam, and a Post Office letter carrier for 38 years, in Selma, AL Montgomery, AL and Lakeland, FL.
Through the years he enjoyed fishing, restoring Mustangs, remodeling houses, fixing up old Singer sewing machines, and restoring antique furniture. After retirement he enjoyed doing volunteer work,
but what he loved the most was working out in the yard. Richard will be remembered most for his kindness, hard work ethic, and caring personality.
Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judyanne Shanks Waters, daughters Heather Waters of Tavares, FL and Shannon Woods (JD) of Salisbury, NC., 3 grandchildren: Olivia Taylor (Ethan), Rylee Woods, and Carter Woods and 1 great-grandson Henry all of NC. He leaves behind a sister, Mary Waters of Homestead, FL and a brother Phillip Waters (Pam) of Bell, FL
A graveside service will be held on March 14, 2026, at 10:00 am at
Rocky Hill Cemetery, 2578 SR-14, Autaugaville, Alabama 36003
