Rodney Burgess passed away August 3, 2021. He was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on January 10, 1954. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents Mary Ann and Ronald Lee Burgess, Sr. of Fayetteville, Georgia.
He is survived by his brother Ronald Lee Burgess, Jr. (Marta) of Opelika; long-time companion Cathi Blaylock of Montgomery; uncle Jerry Burgess (Pam) of Fincastle, Virginia; and nieces and nephews: Lee Burgess (Dawn) of Arden, North Carolina; Regina DeBord (Tristan) of Killeen, Texas; Julia Hillsinger (Brian) of Birmingham; Mary Huston (Peyton) of Birmingham; and John Burgess of Killeen, Texas, along with many great-nieces and nephews.
Rodney attended Opelika High School, where he was the class president his senior year. He attended Troy State University where he played football as a defensive back and was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. He loved to run and ran numerous road races throughout Alabama, including 32 consecutive Jubilee Runs.
He also loved Troy football, attending all home games and many away games. Rodney had a varied sales career with 15 years at Capital Chevrolet and 19 years at American Klassic Designs, from which he retired this past May.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Frazer United Methodist Church with a celebration of life following in the church sanctuary at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, Troy University Athletics or Frazer United Methodist Church.
