With hearts made richer by having had him in our lives, we announce the passing of our treasured Arthur (Art) Brown. Born on November 2, 1953 in Red Deer, Alberta, Art passed away on July 24, 2021 in Prince George, BC.
Pre-deceased by wife Jan (1953- 2007), parents Florence and Brownle, and brother John (Elaine).
Art will be profoundly missed by wife Vickie; daughters Taryn (Brent) and Tannis; step-children Laura (Dan), Ben (Leanne) and Amy; grandchildren Jack, Weston, Evan and Mya; mother-in-law Marjorie (Eldon); sister Kathy (Bill); brothers Lorne (Susannah) and Roy (Sue), many friends and a pack of adoring pets.
After growing up in various places across Canada and England, Art spent his teenage years in the sunny Okanagan playing sports, travelling and being with the most amazing friends a guy could have. Upon becoming a teacher, he and Jan moved to Prince George in 1978, where he was well respected and had fun in his education career until he retired in 2011. A lifelong educator and supporter of those around him, Art made every day special as he saw the best in everyone. This led him to have many friends and many more "Kids" than were his own--the Reunion group, numerous nieces and nephews, the coffee klatch group, the Trent Drive crew and the U/DTSB, his PG Cougars billets and their teammates, the CHCA, the Red Cross group, the St Vincent group, staff and students in School District #57 and many more. In recent years, Art's days were filled with happy memories including PG Cougars games, bowling and sleepovers with the grandchildren, volunteering, cookie decorating, golfing, skiing, kayaking, hiking, dog walks, travelling, Sunday dinners, visiting neighbours, taking care of his neighbourhood and helping everyone he could possibly help.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 7, 2021 at Trinity United Church (3555 5th Ave, PG, BC) at 1:00 pm followed by an open house gathering at the gazebo at Rainbow Park (off OspiKa Blvd.) at 2:30pm.
To those who desire to make donations in memory of Art, the Prince George Hospice House and the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) were close to his heart.
