Her husband Jack predeceased her in 1977. She is survived by her daughter Pat Sandberg (husband Bob Mackay, grandson Scott Mackay, spouse Alyssa and great granddaughter Hannah; grandson Ross Mackay and partner Laura LaBelle); her daughter Laurie Ens (husband Doug, daughter Angela, partner Craig, great granddaughter Avery, spouse Scott Walters, and great great grandson Barrett, great grandson Payton; son Erik and spouse Carl); and daughter Kim Sandberg. She is also fondly remembered by her dear friend Bob McCannon.
Mom was a prairie girl, residing in Aneroid Saskatchewan, until she answered a call to become a nurse. After training at the Winnipeg General Hospital, she nursed at remote gold mines near Long Lake, Manitoba where she met her handsome Jack. She, Jack and newborn Pat then traveled to the new uranium mining areas in Saskatchewan, ending at Gunnar Mines where daughter Laurie was born.
In 1964, the family made their home in Prince George. Daughter Kim surprised and delighted the family with her appearance a couple years later. Mom nursed at the (now) University Hospital of Northern BC starting as a float for the most critically ill patients, becoming a supervisor, and then ending her 40 year nursing career as Director of Maternity and Pediatrics, and finally Admitting.
Mom loved cross country skiing, golf, the opera, the symphony, and playing bridge.
She loved watching sports, especially football, hockey, tennis, and golf. She could name the players and had strong opinions, especially about those she didn't like. She was an avid gardener, read voraciously, was the storyteller in the family, and researched family history. In her retirement, she travelled extensively.
Mom had a long and rich life, and although deeply missed, we are celebrating the life she lived.
A private family celebration will be held at a later date.
