August 6, 1935 – January 15, 2026
Calvin Washington was born on August 6, 1935, in Pheba, Mississippi, to Frank and Millie Washington. He was the second oldest of thirteen children, growing up in a large and close-knit family that shaped his lifelong values of loyalty, hard work, and service.
After graduating from high school, Calvin joined the United States Air Force and was first stationed in Blaine, Washington in 1956. In 1957, he was transferred to the U.S. Air Force Base at Baldy Hughes, approximately 40 kilometers from Prince George, British Columbia. It was there that he met the love of his life, Barbara Bricker. They were married in 1958 and began building a life and family together.
Known affectionately as “Cal,” “The Bopper,” and “The Wash,” Calvin became a well-loved and respected pillar of the Prince George community. A natural athlete and dedicated coach, he played basketball, softball, and hardball in his early years and went on to coach basketball, football, and ladies’ softball, leading many of his teams to championship play. Through sport, he mentored countless young people, teaching discipline, teamwork, and confidence. He was ceremonially awarded and thanked, along with others, for his outstanding contribution for working with youth from the city of Prince George.
Calvin worked for many years as a journeyman welder and was Vice President in the Union at Northwood Pulp Mill. Throughout his career, he touched and inspired many with his strong work ethic, leadership, and kindness.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Millie Washington, and by his sisters Frankie, Flora, and Vallie, and brothers Abe, George, Ronald, and Robert Joe.
Calvin will be laid to rest in the family plot in Mississippi alongside his beloved family.
He leaves behind his children: Calvin Washington, Dwayne Washington (Julia), Frank Washington (Tina), Andrea Pasiuk, Dennis Washington, and Maureen Washington; as well as 29 cherished grandchildren and 19 beautiful great-grandchildren, a remarkable legacy that will continue for generations.
A Canadian Celebration of Life will be held in Prince George on Saturday, April 4th (Easter Weekend). Venue to be determined.
Calvin Washington will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, his commitment to his community, and the many lives he influenced along the way.
