née Fern
January 13, 1937 — April 15, 2026
It is with deep sadness and loving hearts that we announce the passing of Cynthia Elizabeth Morrow (née Fern) on April 15, 2026, at the age of 89. She is lovingly survived by her children Barbara (Eddie), John, and Carolyn (Jim); her grandchildren Cauis (Martha), Kiano, Ashley, Faith (Adam), Mason, and Maxwell; and her beloved great-grandchild Lily. Her love for her family was one of the great constants of her life, and each of them carries a piece of her with them.
Born on January 13, 1937, Cynthia grew up on a farm in northern Saskatchewan, the only girl and youngest of six children. Life on the farm instilled in her a love of animals and the outdoors, a strong work ethic, and a grounded, caring spirit that would define her throughout her life.
Cynthia went on to study nursing at the University of Saskatchewan, and it proved to be her true calling. She devoted her professional life to the care of others, serving as a paediatric nurse at Prince George Regional Hospital (PGRH) with skill and warmth for many years before her retirement in 1996. Though she retired at 60, her connection to nursing never really ended — the friendships she forged with her colleagues in nursing and the broader health care community remained among her closest and most cherished throughout the rest of her life.
That devotion to new life never left her. Long after her retirement, those close to her noticed that she had an uncanny ability to spot a new mother with a baby from across a room — and she simply had to go over and say hello. It was instinctive, warm, and entirely Cynthia.
Having made Prince George her home for over 50 years, Cynthia was deeply woven into the fabric of her community. During the years her daughters were riding, she was an active and dedicated volunteer in the local equestrian community — a role that combined her love of horses with her natural inclination to give her time and energy to the people and activities she cared about. She cherished the many wonderful friendships she built over the decades and the time she shared with those around her.
Among Cynthia's greatest joys were the animals in her life, and none held a more special place than her beloved Chevy. The bond they shared was one that those who knew her will never forget — a loyal companionship that brought her immeasurable joy. She is now reunited with Chevy, and we find great comfort in that.
In keeping with her wishes, Cynthia's ashes will be laid to rest in the Fern family plot at Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan, where she will be returned to the land and the roots that shaped her.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, care aides, and YMCA staff at Simon Fraser Lodge, who cared for mom with such kindness and devotion during the nearly five years she called it home. Your compassion brought her comfort and dignity every day, and you will always hold a treasured place in our hearts.
