Dorothy Elizabeth Balogh, age 77, passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2026. She is survived by her son Dennis and daughter-in-law Sharleen, granddaughter Olivia, her older sister Shirley, and younger brother Russell. She is preceded by her husband Dennis, daughter Darla, and parents William and Irene.
Dorothy grew up in Southern Ontario as the second of three children. She married her husband in 1969, had their daughter in 1970, and in 1972 drove across Canada to move to Prince George. 1977 saw the birth of their son, and in 1981 they built their dream log home.
Dorothy was an accomplished artist which saw her take up and develop what she called 'aluminum drawings', which you can still find in various places around town today. She was also a photographer, pencil and coloured pencil drawer, and even dabbled in water colours. Later in life she took up quilting in its various forms, which she sold at various markets and other local outlets around town.
She as also an avid gardener of both food and flowers, and was able to provide almost all of the food for the year for her family through fresh and canned vegetables and fruit, various jams, and pickled vegetables.
As well as art and gardening, she loved horses. She owned and rode horses from the first couple of years that she lived in Prince George, and continued to do until later in life when life and age caught up to her.
In February of 2025, Dorothy was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer, two months before her husband passed away.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Prince George Rotary Hospice House.
