After leaving Flin Flon as a young lady, Heathers 1st job after graduation was with Brooke Bond Tea Co in Vancouver, where she worked in the accounting dept. Early on Heather met and married Gary moving to Prince George in 1969! This is where Gary began his career with Northwood Pulp and Heather took on bookkeeping for the City of PG, Caledonia Flooring and did accounting for trucking co. Over the years Heather added many other small businesses to her portfolio making sure their books were in order and up to date-- she enjoyed the people and being able to assist no matter how big or small your business was!
Always wanting to be involved and helping, in 1972 Gary and Heather started volunteering at the Hart Highlands ski hill, her as Treasurer, Gary as club president! All their lives when they were able, they also assisted with the Elder Citizens Recreation Association catering group on special events, Ness Lake Bible Camp, Girl Guides, Big Brothers and Big Sister club and helping to raise money for the BC & Yukon Kidney Foundation! Even when their girls had grown and moved on Heather became a Homestay parent for Japanese students and still to this day had contact with them.
Heather's number one priority was to spend time with her family. When their busy lives allowed them they loved to camp in their trailer, later on moving to a motorhome, and traveling where ever it would take them! Taking family holidays with her immediate family, as well as siblings’ to places like Disneyland, Australia, Hawaii and several cruises to the Caribbean, Panama Canal and Alaska to mention a few.
Her personal enjoyment was her flowers on the sundeck – She loved Begonias, had hanging baskets and pots filled! As well her and Gary were known for their great crops of tomatoes and strawberries. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting afghan blankets; watching curling and the old game show reruns! Most importantly Heather was a person who loved people and having her grand kids stop for a visit and her friends stop in for coffee, it was just what truly made her happy in her later days….
The family would like to thank so so many people who were apart of her life and many of which showed their love and support this past year! From Church friends, longtime friends from her past, medical personnel who gave her so much support and helped her through many ups and downs; one cannot go without mentioning the love and friendships she had with the folks in dialysis! Staff and fellow patients and her drive to get back to the Parkwood clinic to the very end.
Dr. Kahn was a person that showed support more as a family member and not her Physician, Through her struggles, Dr. Kahn was there to make her feel strong and loved, including showing up on some of her hardest days and nights at hours most people do not keep.
A Celebration of Life will take place on April 25th, 2026 at 1pm at ECRA (Elders Citizen Recreation Association) Prince George, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC & Yukon Kidney Foundation and Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada
