Jackie Trofanenko

Obituary of Jackie Trofanenko
IN THE CARE OF

Fraserview Crematorium & Fraserview Crematorium – Cemetery Niches

July 1951 - August 2025

With profound sadness, the family of Jackie Trofanenko announce her death in the pre-dawn hours of August 26th, at the PG Hospice House.

Jackie was a gifted educator (K-3 and music teacher), a trained singer and musician (piano, bass fiddle, ukulele), a talented quilter, a baker/cook extraordinaire, a “better than fairy-godmother” to many, a voracious reader (sometimes 4 books at a time), a world traveller (Australia 8+ times, Africa, Hawaii, the UK, Asia, and many others), and a deeply cherished friend.

Jackie was born in Alberta to Fred and Margaret Trofanenko. She began her teaching career in Ranfurly, AB and moved to PG in 1975 after being recruited by SD57. Jackie taught at Westwood, Haldi Road, and Heritage Elementary Schools and retired in 2010 following a rewarding 38 year career. Affectionately known as Miss T., Jackie impacted and enriched the lives of countless students, colleagues, and parents. She gave her best and expected the same in return. She conducted many school choirs, was a founding member of Singfest, and both exposed and challenged her students to learning opportunities and experiences far beyond their years.

Jackie took exceptional pride in her home and loved to host fabulous brunches and plan elaborate multi-course dinner parties. Her homemade bagels, cakes, creme brule, hand-dipped chocolates and a ‘killer’ margarita were much coveted, and she recorded each course in a notebook so as not to duplicate a meal for someone. Jackie was a formidable Jeopardy player and played Scrabble, Wordle and Gin Rummy with the same alacrity. She enjoyed waking to the pre-dawn bird chorus and identifying a variety of species from the screened-in porch.

Jackie is forever carried in the hearts and souls of Cindy and family, Sally, and numerous friendships spanning decades and continents. Cindy and Sally are deeply grateful for the continuous, unwavering support and love of those friends and family. Special thanks to Dr. Bruce Wilson for his kindness, compassion, and for bringing Lilac to Hospice for ‘a proper ear scratching’.

Jackie embraced life’s challenges with determination, immense strength, courage, dignity, moral conviction, grace, and unlimited wit and humour. Her legacy resonates in every person whose life she touched.

A Celebration of Life is planned for the Spring of ’26, allowing those whom loved Jackie to come together in remembrance, song, music, and laughter. Donations to the PG Hospice House, any Food Bank, or Doctors Without Borders is greatly appreciated.
