

Jeanie Corinne Bonin (née Deschner) was born on June 5, 1947, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2026, in Prince George, British Columbia, at the age of 78.
Jean moved to British Columbia as a newlywed after marrying Donald Douglas Bonin on October 8, 1966. They built their life in the Kootenays, where they raised their family and became deeply involved in the community.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald “Doug” (2021); her mother Dorothy (1979); her father Anton “Tony” (1989); and her brother Terry Deschner (2021).
Jean is lovingly remembered by her son Clayton Bonin and his wife Jessica Bonin; her brother Bob Deschner and wife Judy; nieces and nephews Shelly Kolb (Greg), Dale Deschner (Mari Angela), Jackie Swinnerton (Donovan), and Rod Deschner (Dallas); and many extended family members and friends.
Jean dedicated over 50 years as the accountant for Trowelex Rental and Sales in Castlegar, where she was respected for her loyalty, integrity and exceptional work ethic. She took pride in doing things properly and treated her colleagues as extended family, offering steady support and reliability throughout her career.
A proud Canadian, Jean was also a devoted volunteer with the Royal Canadian Legion in Castlegar. She organized the Remembrance Day poster and literary contest for elementary students, volunteered at numerous community events including ceremonies at the cenotaph and was honored with a Lifetime Membership. She also volunteered with the Robson River Otters and the Castlegar Aquanauts during her son’s swim years. Jean was always connecting community together through numerous events.
Jean will be remembered for her strong work ethic, caring and loving nature and unwavering dedication to serving her community.
