If this is the John Frederick Kerr who resided in Mackenzie, BC..

.. I was his step son for a few years when my mom and him were together. I always liked our time we had with him and was sad when I moved away.  We had a dog and cat and a trailer that was a stable home for me.
Though a couple years after the fact, I am saddened to have learned of his passing.

 Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of sorrow.  May the love of family and friends help carry you through your grief.  Grief can be so hard, but your special memory helps you cope.  Remembering you and your loved one today and forever.  We don't know what to say.  We can't understand exactly how you feel, but God does and will keep raising you up.  We hope that our prayers will help a little.  May God sustain you at this time of such great loss.  Lets search the scriptures for a wonderful thought.  It reads like this. " God will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord God will certainly wipe the tears from all faces."  Acts 24:15
