It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Joyce Mary Antonyk, age 82, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025, joining her loving husband, Walter and her son Brent (our dear Uncle B) in eternal rest.
Born and raised in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan, Joyce had a heart as big as the prairie sky. She spoke fondly of her growing up years on the farm in a large family. Joyce married Walter and they had two children (Kathy and Brent). The family moved to Prince George in the early 1970’s and made it home.
Joyce left her daughter with many happy memories all centered around family, celebrations, great food and friends. Even through the sad times, mom was our rock.
Joyce was a caring, compassionate and funny lady. She was competitive at cards and look out when she played Mexican Train. She loved life and believed in family. When she found out her soon to be favourite son in-law (Derrick) and daughter (Kathy) were expecting, she was overjoyed with excitement that just grew with every granddaughter that came. Her greatest moments were captured in pictures showing her with her granddaughters. Joyce loved being a grandmother and it showed. Our daily chats are going to be forever missed.
She was the best Grandma anyone could ever ask for, especially to her four granddaughters (Kaitlyn, Morgan, Grace and Abbey) who adored her beyond measure. She was our safe place, our cheerleader, and our rock.
Joyce was the most incredible baker and cook—her kitchen was always filled with the comforting aroma of something delicious, made with love. Whether it was a warm batch of pink icing squares or a dozen perogies fresh off the stove, she nourished both our bodies and our hearts.
She had the gentlest soul, always thinking of others before herself. Her caring nature touched everyone she met, and her kindness left a lasting impression. She had a quiet strength, always knowing the right thing to say or do to make things better.
One of her life long connections in her life was with her sister, Lorna. Their bond was unbreakable—filled with love, laughter, and a lifetime of shared memories. They were not just sisters, but sister in laws. The beautiful Antonyk sisters were best friends and that closeness was something beautiful to witness.
We were truly blessed to call her ours. Though we will miss her more than words can say, we take comfort in knowing she’s now watching over us, reunited with those she loved so dearly.
Rest in peace, Mom — Grandma Joyce. Your love lives on in every recipe, every memory, every picture and every act of kindness inspired by you.
Joyce’s Memorial Service will be held on Friday May 9, 2025 at First Memorial Funeral Services Lakewood Chapel at 1055 Ospika Blvd S, Prince George at 10am.
