It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Neda Brkich, the pillar of the Brkich family in Prince George. Neda, better known as Baka to all of those who loved her, was born Nedeljka Vukusic in Vrpolje, Slavonia, in Croatia. Neda passed away at the age of 88 with family at her side. She married the love of her life Milan “Mile” Brkich in 1950, and together they had three sons before they immigrated to Canada in 1957. Soon after, they welcomed the birth of their daughter. They spent forty loving years together until Milan passed away in 1990, and established a thriving home and business in Prince George where the family continues to grow.
Neda is survived by her four children Larry (Gaetana), Nikola (Rose-Marien), Anton (Lorena) and Maria (John), along with 8 grand-children: Justin, Nathan, Neda, Anna, Samual, Jordan, Milan, Sophia and nine great grand-children: Marcus, Taylor, Reagan, Aiden, Landon, Emma, Ethan, Ava, and Alia. She is also survived by her brother Zdravko “Baja” in Croatia.
Neda had many passions including gardening, baking, cooking, but most importantly family. She welcomed all with open arms and always had room at her table for more. She will forever be remembered for her famous doughnuts and strudel.
Her family and friends will always remember and never forget her unselfish and always giving nature, her gentle ways, and her comforting presence. She was an unfailing rock of stability and a fountain of faith for all of us who loved her so deeply and will miss her so much. She gave us love, hope, inspiration, and confidence that everything will work out for the best, even during the most difficult times of isolation in the midst of a cruel pandemic. The memories that we made together will stay with us forever. She is free of pain and suffering and is now reunited with Milan. Together their light shines bright above us. Until we meet again Bakica. We love you to the moon and back, and more.
A service will be held at the Prince George cemetery, April 12th at 11am. Due to Covid restrictions attendance will be by invitation only, and a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
