Born in Carman Manitoba on October 3, 1951, Ron accomplished many things -- in his early life he acquired his heavy duty mechanic license and worked in northern Alberta for Caterpillar, later he got deeply involved in being a high school basketball coach, which led to him then becoming an assistant and for one year the head coach of the national champion Brandon University Bobcats basketball team. His love for teaching led to him getting his teacher certification and he enjoyed teaching younger people in high school. In addition to his work life and his involvement in sports, which included being a key leader of the Edmonton Oilers fan club at one point, Ronald enjoyed several hobbies that included fishing, camping, rock hunting and working his placer claim in Northern BC. Ron was full of life and enjoyed teasing and laughing.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years Ella (nee Gerhardt), his son Jonathan Ronald (Debra Weigel) of North Dakota and his daughter Kristina Leah (Morgan) Brewer of Kelowna. He is also survived by his brother Gerald (Muriel) McCutcheon of Portage la Prairie; sister Ellen (Ray) McMillan of Regina; brother Earnest (Elsie) McCutcheon of Calgary; sister Thelma McCutcheon of Portage la Prairie; brother Richard (Tamara Fleming) McCutcheon of Kamloops and brother Walter (Sally) McCutcheon of Kansas City, Missouri along with many nieces and nephews. Ronald was predeceased by his son Jerry Thomas McCutcheon, his mother Eva (nee Elford), father Walter Elvin McCutcheon, and his sister Lauraine Fox.
Cremation has taken place and a private gathering for family was held on March 12, 2026. Spreading the ashes at Ron’s favourite place with his immediate family will take place at a later date. Memories and condolences can be left on the website of Dignity Memorial and Assman Funeral Chapel.
