With a big piece of our hearts missing, we sadly announce the passing of Verna Mae Farquhar (Biggar) after a short battle with cancer. On February 16th she passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones into the waiting arms of Jesus, her father Ralph, and all those who went before her.
Daughter of Ralph (passed in 1973) and Beatrice Biggar. Verna grew up in Vancouver BC where she attended Windemere and David Thompson high school. After school, she worked at her favourite restaurant White Spot, and spent her free time taking her kids skating, swimming and playing tennis. She also loved dancing with her sister and friends at Lasseter’s Den nightclub, and the Wooden Barrel. She loved spending the lazy days of summer at Deer Lake with the crew of friends from Champlain Heights. She was a fun-loving, active and adventurous person who had a great sense of humour.
In 1979 she moved to Prince George for love, but stayed because she got a great job at La Pas Lumber (Winton Global Lumber) where she worked for 30 years. It was there that she played on the La Pas baseball team and developed many lifelong friends. While in PG she dedicated her life to her family and in the raising of her six grandchildren. She traveled yearly to Vancouver to spend summers with her whole family where she loved to show her grandkids the things she loved to do there, like going to the PNE, Go-Karting, waterslides, Stanley Park, Wally’s Burgers and hanging out at her Mom’s kitchen table.
During the last 13 years she reveled in the role of “Nana” to her 3 Great Grandkids ~ Annaleighah, Hayden and Jaxton who she adored and loved to be around just watching them grow into their unique personalities. They always brought her great joy and she would do anything and everything for them. Her love and generosity was unmatched and everyone knew that her home was a ‘safe place’ where you could just be you.
She leaves behind to mourn her, her mother, Beatrice, siblings Margaret, Venus, and Ralph, two children Tami and Freddy, six ‘ . grandchildren Matthew, Stephanie (Jeffrey), Jessica, Johnathan, Samantha, and Tyson and of course, her beloved, great grandchildren, Annaleighah, Hayden, and Jaxton. Our lives will never be the same without her, but we know one day we will see each other again and in the meantime, we hope to make her proud.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Vancouver this summer, with dates later announced.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Cancer Society of BC, the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society, who were wonderful during a very sad time.
