Betty, 89, of Bluefield, WV went home to be with the Lord and His Angels on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Christian Care in Princeton, WV following a long illness.
Born February 17, 1929 in McComas, WV; she was a daughter of the late Russell T. and Lola Perkins Pennington.
Betty was a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church for many years and became a member of the Maple View Church of Christ. She was active in the Women’s Auxiliary, the American Legion, and the DMA’s. She loved to cook and spend time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Howard B. “Shorty” Candler of Bluefield, WV; a son, Russell Candler; a daughter, Lisa Candler Wells; a granddaughter, Heather Wells; two brothers, Bobby Joe Pennington and William Pennington; and two sisters, Frances Lorene Pennington Plymale and Mildred Lucado.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving son, Phillip Candler and wife, Jennifer Saddler-Candler of Bluefield, WV; a daughter, Jessica Terry and husband, Bruce of Bluefield, VA; seven grandchildren, Ian Candler and wife, Ashley of Austin,TX, Jacob Tibbs of Bluefield, VA, Benjamin Tibbs of Princeton, WV, Peyton Terry of Bluefield, VA, Bruce Terry IV of Bluefield, VA, Taylour Candler of Princeton, WV, and Bailee Candler of Princeton, WV; three sisters, Shirley Sarver, Janie Havens and Vicky French; two brothers, Harold Pennington and wife, Alice and Richard Pennington and wife, Carolyn; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Services to celebrate the life of Betty Jean Pennington Candler will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the Maple View Church of Christ, 194 Robins Rest Road, Bluefield, WV with Sr. Minister Caleb Penwell assisted by Tony Reed. Following the services Betty will be laid to rest at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, VA.
Friends may gather with the family from 1:00PM until time of the service Tuesday at the church.
