

Mrs. Emma Jean Gregory Overbey King (Ms. Jean) 85, was born on August 27, 1932. She went to be with the Lord on September 17, 2017. Ms. Jean is survived by her three children: Pamela Kay Overbey; Dr. Ancil Overbey III and his wife, Sherry; and Sandra Glass. She has eight grandchildren: Heather (Matt) McGlothin, Derek (April) Saunders, Dr. Stuart (Dr. Alex) Glass, Kati (Andrew) Charron, Andrew (Kristen) Overbey, Eli (Rebekah) Overbey, Emily Glass, and Stephen Glass. Her six great grandchildren are: Dylan, Collin, & Kara Saunders, Cody McGlothlin, and Theo & Mary Grace Overbey. Her surviving siblings are: Alma Stowers, Shirley Sutphin, Bill, Oren, Don and Jimmie Gregory. Ms. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ancil Overbey, Jr.; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Trubie Gregory; one brother, Trubie Gregory, Jr.; son-in-law, Ray Glass, and other family members and friends.
Ms. Jean, who was born and raised in Rocky Gap, Virginia, moved to Cleveland, Tennessee in 1975 where she lived for 37 years. She loved working with children as she was employed as a head-start teacher for approximately twenty years with the Bradley County Head-Start program. Ms. Jean was a member of the South Cleveland Church of God, Cleveland, TN. She spent forty years teaching Sunday school with the pre-kindergarten age children, and most of her Saturday evenings were spent preparing her craft projects for her pre-schoolers. Most Saturday mornings she loved going to yard sales to find just the right baby clothes for the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Gaston County where her son, Dr. Ancil Overbey III serves as the director.
Ms. Jean lived the last five years of her life with her daughter, Sandra Glass. The family would like to say a special “thank you” for the loving and gentle care Sandra gave our mother during her battle with Alzheimer’s.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, September 20 at 1:00pm at the Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel, 450 Courthouse Rd, Princeton, WV. Dr. Ancil Overbey III will officiate the service. The family will receive family and friends at 12:00 noon prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery immediately following the Celebration of Life service.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Crisis Pregnancy Center, 700 Robinson Rd, Gastonia, NC 28056. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91).
