Jessie Stowers Kitts Nunley

Born November 13, 1923, in Tazewell, VA, she was the daughter of the late Reynold G. Stowers and Nora Bourne Stowers.

She was a faithful member of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church since 1957. At church, she was involved in the D.M.A. ministry and enjoyed participating in the different activities, especially travelling. She worked as a sales person in the children’s department at J.C.Penny for 33 years. Her love for the Lord, family and friends was most important in her life. She delighted in helping and caring for others. She had a giving spirit and was always willing to give whatever was needed; whether it was her time, a meal, or just her love and prayers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Albert Stowers; step-mother Julia Cox Stowers; husband Curtis Wayne Kitts, Sr; her second husband Ernest Warren Nunley; step-daughters Elaine Hylwa and Francis Ann Young; step-son David Nunley; and step-great-granddaughter Victoria Stirewalt.

Left to cherish her memory are son, Curtis Wayne Kitts, Jr and wife Barbara of Tazewell, VA; granddaughters, Lori Kitts Carpenter and husband Shane of Pearisburg, VA; Jennifer Kitts Skaggs and husband Lance of Lerona, WV; 3 great-grandchildren (her dumplings), Abby Carpenter, Logan Carpenter and Mackenzie Carpenter; her sister, Nora (Polly) Shawver Kidd of Tazewell, VA; step-son Bobby Nunley and wife Oleta of Bluefield, WV; step-daughter, Joyce Shelley and husband Robert of Bluefield, VA; step-daughter Linda Walker and husband Pete of Roanoke, VA; 12 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great grandchildren; 1 step-great-great grandson; and many special nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Jessie will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel, 450 Courthouse Rd., Princeton, WV. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Pastors John King and Jim Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial gardens with Jimmy Bourne, Eric Nunley, John Nunley, Richard Landreth, Eddie Abshire and H.L. White serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Russell Lemons.
