

There will be a memorial service held at Prineville Funeral Home Heritage Chapel, Monday, September 16 at 9:00am followed by an inurnment at Juniper Haven Cemetery at 10:00am.
Ernie was born in Warren, Oregon on October 16th,1932 to Ernest Samuel Engstron Sr. and Florence Esther (Shields). He moved to Prineville as a child in 1939, and he attended and graduated from Crook County High School in 1951. He married Hazel June (Brewer) in Prineville, Oregon on October 28th, 1951.
Ernie worked as a building contractor until his retirement in 1996. He developed many subdivisions in the Prineville area including West Hills, Ochoco Valley Homes, Tyler Addition, and Hammon & Hidden Springs. He built the Schwab ranch house and donated his time for the construction of the lockers in the Crook County High school varsity locker room. He constructed many homes in Prineville and Madras and built the first home in Sunriver, built at Salishan, and Noti, Oregon. Ernie moved to Torrance, California in 1985 where he also worked in construction before returning to Prineville in 1996.
He was a member of the Nazarene Church.
Ernie’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling in the RV, boating, woodworking, and spending time with his family.
Ernie was a very loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather to all of his family, and he will be greatly missed.

daughter; Kathy Gray (Leroy) of Prineville, OR
sisters; Shirley Gerke (Jerry) of Madras, OR; Betty Claypool of Prineville, OR
7 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Mary, Maxine, and Bee
