Jere attended Crook County schools and graduated from CCHS in 1987. He received an Agri-business Degree from Oregon State University in 1991. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at OSU. Jere’s dream and goal was to return to the family ranch, Pilot Butte Hereford Ranch. After working for the ASCS for a year, he returned to the ranch he loved to raise cattle and farm.
Jere married Kristi Schaedler Bowers November 1, 2003 in Prineville. They made their home on the family ranch. Jere always loved the soil and growing things. He and Kristi started Hidden Falls Garden in 2005. He was so proud of their beautiful flowering baskets and took great pride in the large flowering tubs on the courthouse steps and at the County Fair. Jere’s also loved his tomato plants and sharing his knowledge about them.
While in high school, Jere, was very active in FFA. He lived the values taught in FFA and worked hard to promote FFA so other young people could have that advantage. Jere loved and believed in Crook County and the Prineville Valley. He was very proud to call Prineville home and truly thought it was God’s Country. Jere felt honored to serve the folks in Crook County as he gave his time to Commission on Children & Families, FFA Alumni, 4-H, FFA Land Lab, Vector Control, Crook County Educational Council, Crook County Extension Service District, OSU Extension Citizens Advisory Network, Prineville Farmers Market, Farm Bureau, Young Farmers & Ranchers, Oregon Farm Bureau Board of Directors and so many community organizations.
Jere greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness to others, his generosity to his community, his beautiful blue eyes and long eyelashes, the twinkle in his eye as he teased and his great smile & laugh.
