Mary Jane Craig

A celebration of her life will be held Friday July 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Prineville Church of The Nazarene with a reception to follow in the activity center, adjacent to the church. Officiating will be Rev. Warren Powell and Pastor Matt Huff.

Mary was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Claud and Birdie (Milam) Puckett. She attended school in the Klamath Falls area. Mary met the love of her life Dale Craig in Klamath Falls on February 14, 1937 and they married just five weeks later on March 27, 1937. Her grandfather, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. They moved to the Central Oregon area in the early 1940’s where they farmed for years. They raised mostly potatoes and a very large family in the Prineville area. Son, Bonnie Craig continues to farm that property today. Mary and Dale both loved the out of doors, hunting and fishing, and that prompted them to homestead on Quesnel Lake in British Columbia, creating a beautiful vacation spot for the whole family. This was the perfect setting for them to fish and for Dale to fix fishing gear, boats, etc. Mary continued to sew and paint and chased black bear from her garden on a regular basis. They enjoyed having guests come to the lake though it was a boat trip that took 1 ½ hours (roundtrip) to pick them up at the dock. They sold their home in Powell Butte a few years ago and moved together into assisted care facilities. He died in January of 2005; just two months short of their 68th wedding anniversary. Mary has been a lifelong member of the Prineville Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school for many years and continued to attend until quite recently. She loved to read and study her bible daily and just last week read scripture aloud to family members.

Mary is survived by her children Beverly and husband Paul Arnold of Prineville, Buck and wife Jeanette Craig of Powell Butte, Patty and husband Doug Fehrenbacher of Hermiston, Kathi Friedman of Prineville, Bonnie and his wife Fidelia Craig of Prineville, Judy and husband Larry Crawford of Redmond and Don and wife Sondra Craig of Salem. She adored her many grandchildren and many more great grandchildren and leaves a very large number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale, three brothers Claud, Bud, and Bonnie Puckett and by one son, Michael Robert Craig.
