SmithfieldAlexander Onischuk, Sr., of Branch Pike, died Tuesday at the Greenville Healthcare Facility. He was the husband of the late Margaret A. (Lovenbury) Onischuk.Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Alexander and Eva (Kirmelevich) Onischuk. Alex was a Supervisor of the vehicle fleet for the United States Postal Service for many years before retiring. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WW II. An avid sportsman, he was a competitive shooter, and marksman. He was a member of the Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club and the Smithfield Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing most of his life. He leaves a sister, Dorothy P. Overton of North Providence, two nieces and a nephew. He was the father of the late Alexander Onischuk, Jr. and brother of the late John Oniss, Estelle Flower, and Sharon Lamarre. The funeral and burial will be private.
