Born on March 12, 1927, in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Helena (Filippino) Zona. Angie was one of ten siblings and is survived by her brother, Lawrence Zona, and his wife, Gabriel.
Angie was the loving mother of Rose Marie Capaldi and her husband Ralph, and Jayne Salum and her husband Joseph. She was a proud grandmother of five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Family was the center of Angie’s life, and she took tremendous pride in reaching the age of 99 surrounded by the people she loved most.
A hardworking woman throughout her life, Angie worked for the Johnston Police Department, where she was affectionately known as “Sarge,” and continued working until the age of 85.
Angie will also be remembered for her extraordinary kindness and generosity. After the heartbreaking loss of her great-granddaughter, Isabella Rose Capaldi, who was born with pediatric cancer and passed away at just 15 months old, Angie dedicated herself to honoring her memory. With love in every stitch, she knitted thousands of matching hats and bootie sets for newborn babies and personally delivered them to local maternity wards, bringing comfort and joy to countless families over the years.
She will be remembered for her compassion, strength, loving nature, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Angie touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Pontarelli-Marino Funeral Home.
