Anita Marie (Henderson) Florio, 76, passed away on July 31, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline (Palombo) Henderson; mother of Jeffrey A. Florio and his partner Krista Dieckamp, and Lauren A. Florio and her partner Andrea Aiello; sister of Patricia Platt; and former wife of John A. Florio. She also leaves her beloved cats Jeter and Joba.
As a child, Anita was raised and lived in the Lymansville section of North Providence. She was an avid Rhode Island Reds and Providence Bruins fan and a 28-year season ticket holder, as well as an avid NY Yankees fan. She retired in 2002 after 28 years of service as a grammar school teacher at the E.A. Brayton Grammar School and Greystone Elementary School in North Providence. She was also a member and delegate for the North Providence Federation of Teachers and a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church where she received all of her sacraments.
Visitation will be held Friday, 4 -7 p.m. with funeral services on Saturday at 8:30-9:30 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Road, Johnston, followed by graveside burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
