Born in Providence, she was the cherished daughter of the late Martin Patrick and Amelia (Dziekiewicz) McAteer. Arlene was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Corrigan, Sr., with whom she shared 52 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing in 2015.
A graduate of the St. Joseph School of Nursing, Arlene dedicated decades of her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse at Butler Hospital. Her compassion extended far beyond her career, demonstrated by her remarkable 30 years of volunteer service at Amos House.
In her earlier years, Arlene enjoyed figure skating and playing tennis. Throughout her life, she found great peace and joy tending to her garden and reading a good book. Above all, Arlene’s greatest treasure was her family, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her generous nature secured her many lifelong friends, and she was active in her parish community at Saint Sebastian Church.
She is survived by her devoted children: Elizabeth Jenkins and her husband Adam, Thomas J. Corrigan, Jr., and Francis Corrigan and his wife Kristen Peterson; her loving sisters, Joan Read and Patricia Poss; and her sister-in-law, Barbara McAteer. Arlene was also the proud grandmother of four cherished grandchildren, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Martin P. McAteer, Jr., and her brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Poss. She also leaves behind many close friends who will miss her dearly.
Arlene’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers at the Hattie Ide Chaffee Home, Rhode Island Hospital, and the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center for their extraordinary care and kindness.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 9th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Her funeral will gather on Saturday, October 10th, at 9:45 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Saint Sebastian Church, 67 Cole Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
