Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Samuel and Esther (Stein) Rosenbaum.
Dr. Rosenbaum served as a surgeon and Lieutenant Commander for the United States Public Health Service during the Vietnam War, and later, as a general surgeon at Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island for more than 30 years. While there, he was also a beloved clinical assistant professor of surgery at the Brown University School of Medicine, where he won the Distinguished Teacher Award.
During his own schooling, Dr. Rosenbaum graduated as salutatorian from both Ursinus College and the Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. In medical school, he became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and won the Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology prizes upon graduation.
Later, during his medical residency, Dr. Rosenbaum helped develop the heart-lung pump used in open-heart surgeries and created a synthetic aortic seal.
Dr. Rosenbaum was also a musical prodigy, and played a trumpet solo when he was just 13 years-old with the Philadelphia Orchestra and famed conductor Eugene Ormandy. He also played trumpet and percussion for The Monte Carlos, a Philadelphia band in the 1960’s.
An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Rosenbaum loved to sail, hike, fish, and ski. He especially loved skiing with his family in New Hampshire, and traveling the world with his wife. Most of all, he was known and loved for his caring heart and devotion to healing others. He was also devoted to and so loved by his family.
