Arthur J Giroux, 83, born on May 20, 1941 to the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Dansereau) Giroux passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He left behind his beloved wife Diane, his three children; Arline Giroux and her fiancé Jonathan Hill, Karen Cirulli, and Brian Giroux and his wife Marsha. Pépère of Victoria Morales and her husband Kevin, Gabrielle Cirulli, Harrison Giroux, Ethan Cirulli, Sophie Giroux, Nicholas Rebelo, Jude Giroux, and Flynn Giroux.
Arthur’s accomplishments included his extraordinary craftsmanship including restoring historical housing in Johnston, Rhode Island, and woodworking. He was a Brown and Sharpe technician and tool and die maker with training at the Rhode Island School of Design.
Arthur was a parishioner of St. Raphael Church, Englewood, Florida and Holy Family Church, Greenville, Maine. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus fourth degree for 52 years from North Providence to Florida and an honorary member in Greenville, Maine.
Arthur’s artistic talents included designing and executing liturgical decorations for a gothic church and a contemporary cathedral. During his years at Saint Edward’s Parish in Providence, he held the titles plant manager, chair of the design and floral committee, altar server for funeral masses, active member of the parish council and choir member. Arthur enjoyed nature to its fullest and all of God’s creatures especially his dogs from his first precious Candy to his last corgi Mandi.
Classical music was his joy and he jolted his family awake early on Saturday mornings to his delight. His love of cooking in his beloved kitchen led to several recipes that are still secrets to this day including his potato salad and thousand island recipe that he even wouldn’t share for 1,000 dollars.
He was able to spin a tale like any Mainer from the number of yolks of the eggs as he candled, the story of how he put a nail through a wall and pierced a picture at a house George Washington stayed in, the basketball fiberglassed into a church steeple, and his favorite sign off to all, “Don’t take any wooden nickels!”
His visitation and funeral will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 144 Danielson Pike, Scituate.
