BROSOFSKY, BARBARA D. (SHUSMAN) 86, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2015 with her family by her side. She was married to the late Joseph Brosofsky of Providence and is survived by her two children Eric Brosofsky of N. Providence and Daniel Brosofsky of Providence, two cherished grandchildren, Jillian and Sarah Brosofsky, and a beloved daughter-in-law, Lisa Brosofsky. Barbara was the daughter of the late Philip Shusman and the late Augusta (Eisenberg) Shusman. She was the sister of Maynard Shusman of Barrington and the late Tevis Shusman of Springfield, MA. She was born and raised in Bristol. She loved reading and was the valedictorian of her Colt Memorial High School class. From there she went on to earn a BA in English from URI and then began her career working for the State of Rhode Island. Soon after that she started her own family in Warwick but eventually moved, in the early 1960s, to Enfield, CT, where she raised her children. As a community activist, she was instrumental in getting public transportation established into this small town. After her husband passed away, she relocated her family back to Rhode Island, settling on the East Side of Providence, a community that she loved being a part of. She worked as a Benefit Specialist for Textron and ended her career there in the mid 1990s. In retirement, she enjoyed reading, travel, playing Scrabble with her friends, luncheons with a group of retirees, and special occasions that brought many of her nephews, nieces, and cousins together. But her biggest joy was being with her grandchildren and spending time with the extended family that grew around them. Funeral services will be held TODAY, Thursday July 2nd at 1:00 PM at Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope St., Providence, with burial in Ellington, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation on-line at http://www.pdf.org/en/index. Shiva will be observed at the home of Daniel Brosofsky on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
