

Providence: Viti, Benedetto A. "Benny", 89, of Nelson St., passed away on Thursday at the Elmhurst Extended Care Facility in Providence. He was the husband of the late Sylvia (Lembo) Viti. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Francesco and Philomena (Robbio) Viti. Benny was a mail handler for the Providence Postal System for 30 years. He was a member of Providence Postal Mail Handlers Union.He was a World War II Army Veteran serving with the 43rd Division in the Southwest Pacific and the Philippines Campaign.He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Seniors and the Mancini Center in North Providence.He worked at Maceroni Funeral Home for many years as an assistant and driver. He is survived by his daughter, Bernadette A. Flynn and her husband Laurence K. Flynn (Chairman of the Providence Board of Canvassers) of Providence, a granddaughter, Kelly E. Flynn of Providence, a brother, Frank V. Viti, Jr. of Smithfield. He was the brother of the late Robert, Thomas, Romeo and Victoria Viti, Jenny May and Phyllis Mantrone. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:00am in St. Pius V. Church, Eaton St., Providence to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday 4-7pm in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Pius V. Church, 55 Elmhurst Ave, Providence, RI 02908 or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, in his memory would be appreciated.
