Bernard Laurence Smith

Born in the Bronx, New York. Bernard was the son of the late Horace D. Smith and Mary E. (Edwards) Smith. He was the 3rd oldest of twelve siblings growing up in a large family that helped shape the generous and steadfast man he became. He was the beloved husband of Jonancy L. (Delgado) Smith, with whom he shared over 60 years of love and companionship. Bernard was also the loving father of Michelle D. Hairabedian and Armon D. Smith, Sr, and the cherished father of the late Sean B Smith and Felicia M. Smith. In addition to his beloved wife, siblings, and children, he leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom will carry forward the memories of his kindness, humor, strength, and unconditional love.

A proud patriot, Bernard honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class. Following his military service, he worked for Textron for several years before continuing his career with Amica, where he remained until his retirement.

To those who knew him, Bernard was a dependable and comforting presence. He was the kind of man who was always there when someone needed him—quietly loyal, generous with his time, and unwavering in his love for his family and friends.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures. A pack of Marlboro Reds, his well-worn Yankees caps, and his nail file were never far from reach. Whether sitting outside soaking up the sun or relaxing on the couch watching the evening news, Bernard was happiest in the comfort of familiar routines.

He was a devoted New York Yankees fan and never passed up an opportunity to visit Foxwoods, where he enjoyed trying his luck and spending time with those he loved. Music was another of Bernard's greatest passions. From the classics of the 1950s through the hits of the 1980s, he knew the words to countless songs and sang them with enthusiasm, bringing smiles to everyone around him.

Above all else, Bernard's greatest legacy is the family he loved so deeply. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
