

Bernard Wasserman, age 96, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026, at his residence. He was the devoted husband of Ina (Dwares) Wasserman, with whom he had shared a remarkable sixty-nine years of marriage.
Born in Brooklyn,, a son of the late Joseph and Faye Wasserman, Bernie spent his youth in New York before relocating to Providence many years ago.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Bernie served during the Korean conflict. He later earned a bachelor’s degree from Lowell Technological Institute and spent many years as a real estate developer before retiring.
Bernie always made every effort to attend his grandchildren’s sporting activities,, from golf to field hockey to football , Bernie would be found on the sidelines cheering for his grandchildren.
Until the very end, at the age of 96, he continued to attend the kids’ games and traveled to the finals in Connecticut last fall. He would spend the night at a hotel to ensure he was there to cheer them on.
In addition to his wife, Ina, Bernie is survived by his sons, Richard Wasserman and his wife Kristiana of Seekonk, MA, and David Wasserman and his wife Kate Solomon of Scarsdale, NY. He also has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, along with his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Bonnie Dwares.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:00 am at Temple Beth-El, 70 Orchard Ave., Providence. A graveside burial will follow in Lincoln Park Cemetery in Warwick.
Bernie was a devoted philanthropist and was especially fond of the Marc Adam Dwares Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In Bernie’s honor, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Marc Adam Dwares Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
