Carmella L. (Franchetti) Iadevaia, 88, passed away Wednesday September 20, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Guido A. Iadevaia, for 67 years, before his death. She was the daughter of the late Santa (Cocozza) and Valerio Franchetti.
Born in Providence RI, she was a lifelong resident of Providence and a communicant of St. Ann Church, Providence. She was a happy homemaker and worked various jobs during her lifetime which included the Wanskuck Mills, where she met her husband, The Outlet Company, the Rhode Island Statehouse, Williams and Anderson, and various other positions in retail sales and manufacturing. But the most rewarding job for her was her family.
She loved to cook and teach her children and grandchildren how to cook. She was known for her TV debut with a segment on a cable show cooking some of her favorite recipes. She loved to crochet, making her New England Patriot and Red Sox blankets for her family members and friends. Many of her pieces were used in raffles to raise money for organizations close to her heart. Her house was always filled with love, being the house in the neighborhood where everyone would frequent; and for family and friends, for many holiday gatherings. She was a very giving person, inviting people who had no place to go, for holidays, to her table.
She was the loving mother of her children, Dr. David G. Iadevaia, Ph.D. of Arizona, Richard Iadevaia and his wife Kathleen, Valerie Rezendes and her husband Gary, Patricia M. Iadevaia (PPD, Ret.) and Dr. Santa T. Iadevaia Ed.D, of Rhode Island; and former daughter-in-law Mary-Margaret Iadevaia of Arizona.
And those who called her “NONNI” were her 9 cherished grandchildren: Peter, Andrea, Laura, Elise, Michael, Lisa, Brian, Stephanie and Nicholas, and her 12 great-grandchildren, Juliet, Vincent, and Roman, Madison and Lance, Lucas, Dominic, and Sofia Carmella, Aoife, Ava and Addison, and Gianna.
She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sisters, Carmella and Antoinetta, and her brother Cosmo Franchetti.
Visitation will be held on Monday, 4-7 p.m. with her funeral on Tuesday, at 9 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St Ann Church, 280 Hawkins Street, Providence, followed by burial in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor her name may be made to St. Ann Church Memorial Fund, 280 Hawkins Street, Providence RI 02904.
