Carolyn M. Spinella
November 21, 1928 – January 8, 2019
Carolyn M. (D’Alessandro) Spinella, 90, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2019. She was born, raised and lived in Providence before moving to Smithfield in her later years.
She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her happiest times were shared with her family as it grew over the years. Her house was the gathering place for Sunday meals, holiday celebrations, and summer days by the pool. An especially joyous time was Christmas Eve dinner, with Mom cooking with her sister Grace all the fish dishes that everyone loved. She loved to cook for friends and family and as Mom said “it shows”. She was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She was employed at Trifari’s before she had children and later in life worked at Delta Drug and Benny’s. She was a member of the Dominicana Club and a girl scout leader at Saint Pius Church. She was an avid duckpin bowler and was always ready for a game of cards, especially high low jack. She loved to sew, making clothes for special occasions, draperies for her home and Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She was active well into her 80’s. Being with her family is what made Mom most content.
She was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Louise (Papa) D’Alessandro; wife of the late Judge Peter Spinella Sr.; mother of Pamela S. Sheffield, O.D. and her husband Kimbal, D.D.S., Karen E. Spinella-Shoemo and her husband Andrew, Peter Spinella Jr. and his wife Laura, twins Richard A. Spinella and Raymond A. Spinella and his wife Grace; sister of Maria Grace Marchionda and her husband Joseph, Vincent D’Alessandro, M.D., Dorothy Griffin and the late Frank D’Alessandro and Elizabeth Carlone; Nana to 11 grandchildren and to 2 great-grandchildren.
She was known for her kindness and our lives are richer for having been touched by her. Her family wishes to celebrate a life well lived.
